Romania's trade deficit increased in October, as exports declined and imports rose, figures from the National Institute of Statistics showed on Tuesday.

The trade deficit rose to EUR 1.969 billion in October from EUR 1.887 billion in the same month last year. In September, trade deficit was EUR 1.188 billion.

Exports edged down 0.1 percent annually in October, after a 4.5 percent rise in September.

Imports rose 0.9 percent in October, following a 7.0 percent increase in the preceding month.

For the January to October period, the trade deficit was EUR 14.02 billion. Exports and imports rose by 1.7 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively, from a year ago.
