At 4.30 am ET Friday, the UK CIPS/Markit composite PMI survey results are due. Economists forecast the index to climb to 50.5 in January from 49.3 in December.
Ahead of the data, the pound advanced against its major rivals. The pound was worth 1.3147 against the greenback, 144.13 against the yen, 1.2754 against the franc and 0.8404 against the euro as of 4:25 am ET.
