South Africa's retail sales increased in January after falling in the previous month, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.
Retail sales rose 1.2 percent year-on-year in January, after a 0.5 percent decrease in December. In November, retail sales 2.6 percent.
The largest positive contribution came from retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment, retailers in food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores and all 'other' retailers.
On a month-on-month basis, retail sales decreased 0.9 percent in January, after a 3.2 percent rise in the previous month.
In the three months ended in January, retail sales increased 0.4 percent, same as seen in the preceding three months.
