South Africa's wholesale sales rose for the second straight month in January, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Thursday.

Wholesale sales increased 1.9 percent year-on-year in January, following a 2.5 percent rise in December. In November, wholesale sales fell 5.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, wholesale sales rose 1.1 percent in January, following a 0.5 percent decline in the preceding month.

For the three months ended in January, wholesale sales fell 2.0 percent, following a 2.9 percent decrease in the previous three months ended in December.
