New Zealand consumer confidence weakened in March, survey data from ANZ showed on Friday.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence index fell to 106.3 in March from 122.1 in February.

The current conditions index dropped to 114.2 and the future conditions index decreased to 101.0.

Consumers' perceptions of their current financial situation declined 2 points to a net 12 percent. A net 17 percent of consumers expect to be better off financially this time next year, but was down 15 points from February.

The balance of consumers who thought it as a good time to make major purchases fell 25 points to 16 percent.

Perceptions regarding the next year's economic outlook plunged, with the balance falling sharply by 42 point to a net 39 percent. Meanwhile, the five-year outlook rose 5 points to +25 percent.
