Private sector credit in Australia was up 0.3 percent on month in December, the Reserve Bank of Australia said on Tuesday - shy of expectations for 0.5 percent, which would have been unchanged.

On a yearly basis, private sector credit climbed 8.3 percent.

Individually, housing credit rose 0.3 percent on month and 6.5 percent on year, while personal credit fell 0.5 on month and 0.1 percent on year and business credit gained 0.3 percent on month and 12.0 percent on year.

Broad money was up 0.7 percent on month and 6.6 percent on year.
