Italy's producer prices showed a further sharp decline in October, figures from the statistical office Istat showed on Wednesday.

The producer price index fell 9.5 percent year-over-year in October, following a 14.1 percent plunge in September. Prices have been falling since April.

On a monthly basis, producer prices increased at a faster rate of 1.5 percent versus a 0.6 percent fall a month ago.

The monthly increase was mainly due to the uptrend in prices in the energy sector, especially the supply of electricity and gas on the domestic market, the agency said.

Separate official data showed that industrial sales recovered 1.2 percent monthly in September after a 0.4 percent fall in August. Yearly, industrial turnover logged a decline of 2.6 percent.
