In August 2025, Greece experienced a deceleration in its annual inflation rate, which fell to 2.9%, down from July's peak of 3.1%, marking the highest in over a year. The moderation in price increases was observed across various categories. Notably, food and non-alcoholic drinks saw a reduction in inflation, with rates dropping to 2.2% from 2.8% in July. Similarly, clothing and footwear experienced a decrease to 7.7% from 8.4%, housing dipped to 3.7% from 6.6%, communication fell to 1.7% from 2.1%, health decreased to 0.6% from 2%, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco dropped to 1.2% from 1.8%. Conversely, transportation expenses rose to 1.6% from a previous decrease of -1.1%, while the prices for recreation and culture increased to 1.2% from 0.8%. Meanwhile, the costs for accommodation, such as hotels, cafés, and restaurants, remained stable at 6.2%, as did education costs which held at 2.6%. On a month-to-month basis, there was a slight increase in consumer prices by 0.1%, following a decline of 0.4% in the preceding month.
