In July 2025, Bulgaria experienced a significant trade deficit of BGN 1,590.8 million, a substantial increase from the BGN 544.7 million recorded in the same period the previous year. This represents the most significant deficit since April, driven by a more pronounced decline in exports compared to imports. On a year-over-year basis, exports fell by 13.2% to BGN 7,164 million. This decline was marked by a sharp 21.1% decrease in shipments to EU countries, while exports to non-EU countries saw a marginal increase of 1%. Conversely, imports recorded a slight decrease of 0.5%, reaching BGN 8,754.8 million. This was mainly due to a 3% reduction in imports from non-EU countries, while there was a 1.5% increase in purchases from EU countries. Between January and July, Bulgaria's trade deficit expanded to BGN 10,545.3 million, compared to BGN 6,044.9 million during the same timeframe the previous year, as exports fell by 4.8% and imports rose by 3.6%.
