The US dollar was flat against most major currencies Monday as the aftermath of upheaval in Ukraine, Gaza, and Iraq continue to bolster the price of the haven currency against the effects of weak housing data last week and woes the Federal Reserve would increase interest rates earlier than 2015.

The Japanese yen inversed gains versus most major counterparts, with the dollar purchasing ¥101.34, down from ¥101.36 late Friday.

Moves into currencies conventionally considered havens came as fighting continued in Gaza, as 96 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers died Sunday.

Upheaval is still high between Ukraine and Russia in the light of the downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 Thursday, killing all 298 passengers on board. No one took responsibility for the incident, but US officials leveled accusations at Russia of involvement in the crash.
