Hong Kong stocks surged in the opening action of Wednesday trading after a three-day losing streak as a higher finish for U.S. equities and gold prices provided a lift to the property and airline sectors. The Hang Seng Index gained 0.3% to 21,742.23 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index higher by 0.1% in 10,435.41. Shares of China Overseas Land & Investment Ltd. soared 0.9% and New World Development Co. improved 1.3%, while Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. boosted 3.2%. Cnooc Ltd. traded 2.5% higher and coal miner China Shenhua Energy Co. bolstered 1.5% among energy stocks. China's Shanghai Composite moved a notch with 0.1% in tentative early trade.
