The US dollar traded at four-week versus a basket of major currencies early Friday, getting another lift from upbeat figures following the Federal Reserve gave a positive assessment on the American economy.

The greenback bought ¥109.32 against the Japanese yen, close to a four-week peak of ¥109.47 touched overnight. Against the euro, the currency traded at $1.2606.

"The upside surprise was mostly located in defense spending, inventories and, to a lesser extent, net foreign trade. All three of these categories tend to be associated with payback the following quarter," said JPMorgan analysts in a note to clients.
