Thursday, the Statistics Estonia announced that the consumer price index, or CPI rose 10.4% in 2008, compared with the 6.6% rise recorded in the previous year.
The consumer price inflation was mainly influenced by rise in expenditures on housing and increase in prices of food, motor fuel, alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
During the period, food and nonalcoholic beverage prices grew 14.2%, while clothing and footwear prices increased 3.8%. Similarly, transport charges were up 11.1%, but communication charges declined 0.9%.
In December, the CPI grew 7% on an annual basis and it dropped 0.2% compared to the previous month.
