The Turkish lira started ticking up against the US dollar during European deals and climbed to 1.6178 by about 2:30 am ET. This may be compared to its early low of 1.6310. The Turkish currency that closed yesterday's deals at 1.6253 versus the buck is now worth 1.6228.

A report by the Turkish Statistical Institute or the Turkstat said the jobless rate stood at 10.9% in October, up from 9.7% last year. The number of unemployed persons increased to 2.7 million from 2.3 million last year.

During the month, the underemployment rate increased to 3.4% from 2.8% last year. For the youth aged 15-24, the underemployment rate increased to 3.7% from 3.1%.
