German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in principle upbeat to awarding the market economy status to China, although it is subject to the EU Commission to give such a recognition.
Merkel made the remarks while visiting the eastern Chinese city of Hefei.
Previously, China sealed a $17 billion contract to purchase 130 aircraft from Airbus, which was unveiled following a meeting between Merkel and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
