The UK current account deficit totaled GBP 7.7 billion in the third quarter, equating to minus 2.1% of GDP, the Office for National Statistics said Tuesday. The shortfall for the second quarter was GBP 6.4 billion.

Compared to second quarter, the current account showed lower surpluses on income and on trade in services. The deficit on trade in goods widened GBP 0.2 billion to GBP 23.6 billion and surplus in trade in services slid to GBP 11.5 billion from GBP 12.1 billion. Meanwhile, the surplus on income fell GBP 0.8 billion to GBP 7.5 billion. But the deficit in current transfers narrowed GBP 0.3 billion to GBP 3.1 billion.
